What is the difference between a licensed architect and a non-licensed architect?

A licensed architect has completed an accredited architecture degree program, gained practical experience through an internship, and passed a rigorous set of exams. This person is registered with a state licensing board and is legally authorized to practice architecture. A non-licensed architect may have education and experience in architecture but has not completed the necessary accreditation and registration processes to be authorized to practice architecture. They may work under a licensed architect or hold other roles within the field of architecture such as draftsperson, architectural technician, or designer.
