What is a gambrel roof design?

A gambrel roof is a roof with two sloping sides on each of its lengthier sides. The steepness of the upper slope is lower and more prolonged than the lower slope. Sometimes, the upper curb will have windows or serve as additional living space, much like an attic. This design is often used in barns and other agricultural buildings because it provides a lot of space while maintaining a low profile to avoid wind damage.
