What is a glass ceiling?

A glass ceiling is an invisible barrier that prevents women, people of color, and other marginalized groups from advancing to higher positions in the workplace, despite possessing the necessary qualifications and experience. It is a metaphorical term used to describe the barriers and discrimination that limit an individual's career advancement and opportunities based on their gender, race, ethnicity, or other factors that are beyond their control. The glass ceiling is often attributed to systemic discrimination, unconscious bias, and lack of diversity and inclusion policies in organizations.
