What is a mold?

A mold is a type of fungus that grows in the form of multicellular filaments known as hyphae. Molds are ubiquitous in nature and can be found indoors and outdoors. They play an important role in the decay of organic matter and are also used in the production of certain foods like cheese and soy sauce. However, some molds can also pose health hazards if they grow in homes or other buildings and release harmful spores into the air.
