What is a design development in architecture design process?

Design development is a phase in the architecture design process where the design concept is refined and detailed to a higher level. This typically involves further exploration of the design idea and solidifying the design direction. During this phase, the architect works on establishing the technical requirements, material specifications, mechanical, electrical details, structural calculations and defining all the requirements necessary to achieve a complete set of construction documents that fully explain the design intent. The primary goal of the design development phase is to produce a final design that meets all requirements and is ready for construction.
