What is a heuristic evaluation?

A heuristic evaluation is a usability inspection method used in evaluating an interface or product to identify any design issues or potential areas of improvement, based on a set of usability principles or heuristics. The evaluation is usually conducted by a team of evaluators who systematically inspect the interface to identify usability problems or violations of best practices, and then rate each problem in terms of severity and potential impact on the user experience. The goal of a heuristic evaluation is to identify potential usability issues early in the design process, ultimately resulting in an improved user experience.
