What is the prescriptive design?

Prescriptive design is a methodology in which a set of parameters or rules are given to architects or designers to follow in order to achieve a particular outcome. These rules are typically developed through research or best practices and are intended to ensure the safety, functionality, and aesthetics of a building or product. Prescriptive design can be contrasted with performance-based design, in which the outcome is determined by a set of performance criteria rather than specific design guidelines.
