What is the difference between a eave and a fascia?

An eave is the overhanging edge of a roof that extends beyond the exterior wall of a building. It is typically the horizontal edge of the roof and may have a gutter attached to it to collect rainfall.

A fascia, on the other hand, is a vertical board that covers the end of the rafters where they meet the outer edge of the roof. It is usually located just below the eave and can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, aluminum, or vinyl. The fascia is important because it helps to protect the roof edge from weather damage and also provides a finished look to the building.
