The most common motifs used in art deco architecture were geometric shapes, such as zigzags, chevrons, and sunbursts, as well as stylized, streamlined forms inspired by the machine age. Other popular motifs included Egyptian and Mayan motifs, floral and botanical patterns, and the use of bright, bold colors and contrasting materials such as chrome, stainless steel, and black lacquer. Patterns were also often repeated, creating a sense of rhythm and movement in the designs.
