What is a design thinking process?

Design thinking is a problem-solving approach that puts the user at the heart of the process. It is a human-centered methodology that involves empathizing with users' needs, brainstorming creative solutions, prototyping and testing the proposed solutions. The design thinking process typically involves five stages:

1. Empathize: In this stage, designers seek to gain a deep understanding of the user's needs and pain points. This involves conducting user research, observing users in their natural environment, and gathering insights through interviews and surveys.

2. Define: After gathering insights, designers then define the problem they are trying to solve. This is where they create a user persona, which outlines the needs, wants, and behaviors of the target user.

3. Ideate: In this stage, designers brainstorm ideas and generate multiple solutions to the defined problem. The focus here is on quantity rather than quality, as designers aim to generate as many ideas as possible.

4. Prototype: In this stage, designers create low-fidelity prototypes of their proposed solutions. They use sketches, wireframes, and mockups to test and refine their ideas. The emphasis is on quick and inexpensive iteration to arrive at an optimal solution.

5. Test: In the final stage, designers test their prototypes with actual users to evaluate their effectiveness. This helps designers to identify any areas that need improvement or modification. Based on feedback, designers refine their ideas and re-enter the design thinking process at any of the earlier stages.
