What is the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)?

The International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) is a model code that provides guidelines and standards for energy efficiency and conservation in new and existing buildings. It is published by the International Code Council (ICC) and is adopted as a legal requirement by many states and local jurisdictions in the United States. The IECC sets minimum requirements for building envelopes, lighting, heating, cooling, ventilation, and water heating systems, among other things, in order to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The latest version of the IECC is the 2021 edition.
