What is the difference between a one-way slab and a two-way slab?

A one-way slab is a type of concrete slab that is supported by beams on two opposite sides and transverse bents on the other sides, and it bends only in one direction perpendicular to the supporting beams. On the other hand, a two-way slab is a type of concrete slab that is supported by beams on all four sides and flexible in both directions, thus bending in two perpendicular directions. The thickness of a one-way slab is generally less but has a higher span-to-depth ratio than a two-way slab of the same capacity. The use of one-way or two-way slabs depends on the technical requirements, span, load-bearing capacity, cost, and other factors.
