What is the history of product design?

Product design has been an important part of human history for centuries, if not longer. The earliest examples of product design can be seen in tools and accessories created by early humans, such as hand-axes and knives.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as mass production became more prevalent, product design became a more structured and professionalized field. Design schools such as the Bauhaus in Germany and the Ulm School of Design in Germany helped establish product design principles that are still in use today.

Since the mid-20th century, product design has been transformed by new materials and manufacturing processes, as well as new technologies such as computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D printing. With these advances, product designers have been able to create increasingly complex and sophisticated products, from smartphones to electric cars.

Today, product design is a rapidly-evolving field that continues to shape our lives and the world around us.
