What is the difference between industrial design and software engineering?

Industrial design is the process of designing physical products (like furniture, appliances, or automobiles) with a focus on functionality, aesthetics, usability, and manufacturability. Software engineering, on the other hand, is the process of designing, developing, and maintaining software systems and applications.

While both fields require a design mindset and a problem-solving approach, they differ in their output and tools. Industrial designers often use physical prototyping tools, such as CAD software and 3D printers, to create physical models and test their designs in the real world. Software engineers, on the other hand, use programming languages, frameworks, and tools to design and develop software systems that run on digital platforms.

Additionally, the design considerations in each field are different. Industrial designers need to consider materials, ergonomics, safety, and manufacturing processes, while software engineers need to consider scalability, performance, security, and user experience.
