What are the Passive House certification levels?

There are currently three types of Passive House certifications:

1. Certified Passive House: This certification requires meeting the rigorous design and performance criteria set by the Passive House Institute (PHI). This level requires a maximum space heating or cooling demand of 15 kWh/m² each year and a maximum primary energy demand of 120 kWh/m² each year.

2. EnerPHit: This certification is for existing buildings that have been retrofitted to Passive House standards. It requires a maximum space heating or cooling demand of 25 kWh/m² each year and a maximum primary energy demand of 120 kWh/m² each year.

3. PHI Low Energy Building: This certification is for buildings that almost meet the requirements of Certified Passive House, but do not quite meet all of the criteria. This level requires a maximum space heating or cooling demand of 25 kWh/m² each year and a maximum primary energy demand of 90 kWh/m² each year.
