What is the Net Zero Energy Building Standard?

The Net Zero Energy Building (NZEB) Standard is a rating system that sets a high-performance benchmark for buildings that generate as much energy on-site from renewable resources as they consume over the course of a year. The primary goal of the NZEB standard is to achieve zero net energy consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase the use of renewable energy sources. To meet the standard, a building needs to be highly energy efficient, incorporate renewable energy systems, optimize building orientation, design, and behavior. NZEBs can include all types of buildings, including commercial, industrial, and residential.
